Say Yes to more You-ness!

By

Do you ever find yourself re-evaluating everything that you’re doing?

I sure do!

Life is all about growth and expansion and CHANGE is a big part of it. It’s important that you check in every now and then to make any adjustments that you need so you can stay in perfect alignment with your ever expanding self.

Recently I checked in to see if the name Defy the Box was still in alignment with what I’m all about.  I’ve shifted a bit from being a rabble rouser and preaching about how society keeps us trapped in pre-packaged lives; and expanded into being someone who helps you amplify your shine factor by flying your freak flag high and proud.

I’m still talking about all the same things; I’m just applying them in a more expansive way.

I realize more than ever - you need to let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embrace who you are.

LOVE. IT. ALL.

When you do this you become super shiny and life feels kick-ass.

This is especially important when you are an entrepreneur. You’re selling yourself more than anything.

If you want to rock your business out – you’d better feel good about yourself; be really clear about what your super powers are; and what you stand for.

More YOU-ness all the time- show the people what you’ve got!  (I’m not talking about flashing here either!)

But in order to do this……..in order to fully love and accept who we are……. we need to let go of all the preconceived notions of who we THINK we are.

Reject the boxes, roles, expectations, and beliefs that you are trying to fit into.

Question everything to see if it is true.

Give yourself permission to be unique; brilliant; flawed.

HUMAN.

This takes courage! You’ll meet all kinds of resistance to you being YOU. People will call you crazy, and say that’s not the way you’re supposed to do things. They will try and make you wrong. Hell, you’ll make yourself wrong.

Do it anyway.

It’s so worth it when you hit the sweet spot of being in alignment and the world is opening up before you. You become a sparkly, shiny beacon of light that attracts all kinds of amazing opportunities- freedom, fun, people, jobs, money, and connection.

Life is Totally KICK-ASS!

Defy the Box and say “yes” to you!

Are you in?

What are some boxes that you are ready to defy?

I love the way you lead by example and the way you apply this to business Leah…It does take courage to do our work in ways that feel right to us, and to show up as a ourselves. But honestly, the alternatives to that just aren’t very attractive!

Yes! When I’m really busting the boxes and just being ME, business feels effortless! No, better than that — it feels FUN! I love the way you’ve put this into words, Leah, and put it out there. I’m also impressed that you’re constantly re-examining your own “stuff” to be totally authentic. xoxox

YES!!!! YES!!!! A thousand times, YES!!!

I, too, think evaluating where you stand with yourself often is so important – especially now, when we are evolving SO fast…

I am totally embracing 100% of me and I am floored at how much more fun I have and how truly wonderful that is for my clients.

This is my fave sentence here: “let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embrace who you are.”

LOVE this Leah! You rock!

I love this! It is so true! and I love the fact that you reiterate that it’s OK to change. I see people get so stuck because they forget that it really is ok to change your goals, dreams, ideas, products, what not. Change means you’re evolving, and that’s a GREAT thing!!

Hi Leah, another brilliant post. You always leave me feeling motivated and free. I was wondering if you had suggestions on things/processes you can do to help you get to the root of You, who you are and not who you think you are? I’ve been working on this; but how do you know when you’re not being the real you?

Leah.. love the idea of “resistance” to being who we are.. so true. One of the best parts about getting older for me has been the ease of becoming more myself. There are still places that snag me around judgment or wanting to spin it differently but definitely less resistance, less painful pointless perfectionism and judgment.

love to you-

Nice one! I’ve been poking at the edges of the box that seems to be building itself around me for awhile now…..and what I’m finding is that need for being more clear about how to knit all the pieces of me together into one fabulous rock star way of being in the world.

How do beautiful intimate photos of nature, a practice of gratitude and social media butterfly touches fit together as a product? I’ll tell you when I know!

Keep singing the anthem, sister, we’re loving it!

Hugs and butterflies,

I’m lad to hear that you are feeling less resistance as you grow older. I find the more I’m focused on being in alignment and feeling good….the less resistance I feel.

Resistance comes from other people as well. The clients who wants you to keep your evening hours; your partner who wants you to get a real job; and your family who doesn’t understand your desire to take risks and do your own thing.

There are so many opportunities to question ourselves!Staying tuned into your own inner alignment is essential.

Yay for feeling motivated and free!

How you feel is the best indicator of whether or not you’re being the real you. Simply put- If you feel good, tuned in, turned on…you are in alignment. If you don’t you’re not.
Being in alignment with YOU feels good…expansive….inspiring. When you’re not being YOU- it feels constrictive…limiting….pressure….fake. It feels like you are playing a role…and there is a right way & a wrong way to do it.
There is a lot of brain chatter like- I’m supposed to do this…..I have to be…I should. It’s like your btrying to force yourself into something.Lots of enrolling and convincing.

I ask my clients to make the commitment to feeling good all the time. This doesn’t mean that you never feel bad…but when you do, you take a minute to notice what is going on and asking yourself what would feel better.

I find that opening up to more YOU-ness is a practice. You have to learn to wrangle your thoughts…choose the ones that feel good to you, and learn to direct them.

You also have to learn a few new tricks- like paying attention to what you need to thrive. Identifying your preferences, what interests you, and how you work. This is tricky because most of us aren’t taught how to do this. WE are taught to fit -in, ignore our own needs, and do what we are supposed to do rather than what we want to do.

I created the Discovering Kick-Ass Guide to help people with this process. It’s got some great exercise like the This Rocks List and a Daily Practice that teaches you to tune into who you are and what you need to thrive.

Rock on!
Leah

Thanks for your comments Amy- Change is good!!!

14

Thanks Jessica!

I find the same thing to be true for me–more Me-ness =more fun and flow in my biz.

15

Sue…you got that right! The alternatives suck!! I could never go back.

16

Yes Bri!! Defy that work junkie box!!

Your comment brings up the point for me that being yourself can feel scary….but it also has that inspiring -free aspect to it. The energy is expansive….as opposed to when your not in alignment and the scary energy feels very constricted.

I like that little tidbit..thanks!

Thanks Jackie!!

Love the name of your site!

For me right now, I am thinking in lines of a smaller box. My spirit hasn’t been resonating with the more and bigger principle. Instead, I am hearing over and over … small. It goes against everything I read. But for some reason, I am being led inward to cultivate something.

So that is what I am doing.

Thanks for being a voice that gives permission to defy the box … no matter who has drawn the box.

Some people are just afraid to jump in and experiment but for those who believe in themselves, it’s just a piece of cake. Life is really a progression, and I agree that we can take control of it and have fun with it, not the other way around. You have just given everyone a very wonderful advice Leah.
