Reclaiming the Word FREAK!!
ByOver the course of the past three years I’ve gotten a lot of advice from a variety of coaches that I’ve worked with. Some of that advice has included the suggestion to stop talking about being a freak, working with Freaks, and tuning into your Inner-Freak. I know that this suggestion comes from a good place, but I’m sick of it! I like using the word FREAK! I am a FREAK! My Right people are FREAKS too! You get it.
So, I want to officially re-claim the word freak and establish exactly what I mean when I say it so that there is no confusion.
A Freak is someone who is unique and fully embraces that which makes them different. They are rare and not like everyone else. A Freak is not afraid to do their own thing, and live life their way. They are bold, adventuresome and courageous, interesting and fun.
Being a Freak feels good! You’re being 100% authentic and fully embracing your unique gifts and letting it all hang out for the world to see. No pretending or hiding away. It allows you to fully expand into your brilliance.
I think the only negative thing about being a freak is the way other people treat you sometimes. Judgment form other people can be tough, but when it comes right down to it, who are you living for- them or you? Their judgment has nothing to do with you and everything to do with their own insecurities.
I encourage you to embrace your freakiness! Be unique and different. You already are a rare commodity because there is no-one else like you! Don’t be afraid to own it!

Hi Leah,
I keep thinking about this post!!! I have feared the judgment from others so feel like I have kept my freaky self well hidden. I am finally at a age where I feel “free” enough and not too worried about what they think so yes, I think I am going to let my freak side fly!!! thanx c

Woo-Hoo Catherine! It’s awesome that you are claiming your right to be authentic and freaky!! Trust me…it is so much easier to let your freak flag fly than it is to hide it. Flying it really does come naturally.

I really love this topic. I am a freak too!!! There really aren’t people “like” me anywhere I go. I am definately unique. I am just learning what my strengths are and using them to benefit myself and others. It really is freeing. I’m learning a lot about myself in the process.
