Liberation or Fear

By

Do you ever feel like you need to reign yourself in so other people feel comfortable?

Or you worry about how other people are going to react so you don’t say what you think, dance across the room, or write the blog post you’re dying to share?

Perhaps you find yourself over analyzing everything to the point that you don’t actually get anything done?

All of these situations are signs that you are letting your fear limit your self-expression and it’s time to unleash yourself and let your freak flag fly!

Seriously, if you want to live a kick-ass life you need to move from fear based to LIBERATION based ways of relating. Stop wasting your time and energy worrying about what everyone else is going to think/feel and start focusing on what will help you move forward and expand into more YOU-ness.

I’m going to borrow these fabulous questions from Danielle LaPorte- she nailed them so perfectly.

Fear –driven questions-

What will they think of me? I better do what will make me look good.

What do they expect of me? I better give them what they want, when they want it.

What can I get from them? I better be clever to get what I want.

Something to notice about all of these questions is that they imply that there are conditions to you getting what you want. You need to look good, fit in, get it right and keep other people happy if you want things to go your way.

It doesn’t work that way. Other people are not responsible for your outcome; you are. Keep the power in your own hands. Your being true to yourself and letting your freak flag fly is the key to your living your life your way. Don’t let your fear what other people are going to think hold you back.

If you want to embrace this and really rock it out- I suggest basing your choices and actions on these Liberation driven questions- also from D.L.

Liberation-driven questions:

Is this moving me forward?

Do I feel more like myself?

Does this feel expansive or contracting?

How can I be generous here?

I’m really digging the concept of expansion and contraction. This is something I talk about a lot with clients. When something feels expansive, it’s an indication that you are in alignment and opening up to more of yourself. There is a forward motion and sense of unfolding to it. This is what you are looking for!

The feeling of contraction means you are limiting yourself- putting yourself into a box of sorts- and something is out of whack. When you feel this way it’s time to take a step back and determine what would feel better to you.

The more you unleash yourself – fly your freak flag- and bring more of YOU into the equation; The more kick-ass your life will be.

Where are you at with this?

Are you driven by fear or driven by the desire for liberation?

Is there one area of your life that you are more driven by fear than by liberation?

Lay it on me in the comments below.

I’m in fear mode….. I’m middle aged and I’m so bogged in the security of my life-sucking job. I don’t know what I’d rather do but I have to help support my family. I’ll be re-reading this post again.

I’m flying my freak flag with abandon in most ways, with just a few items that are holding me back a wee bit. I’m about to take an energy clearing class that I think will open the floodgates all the way….and if I’m still floundering, I’ll come back and try these questions again.

Liberation-driven indeed!

Your 4 questions are great questions; just reading them felt expansive, like a deep inhale.

As always, thanks for your insights. I do find them inspiring.

Hi Leah..
I’ve always been pretty comfortable being outside of the mainstream.. and now that I am older, it’s even better. I come from a big-mouthed outspoken family.. and I guess that helped but I had to learn to modify in other ways. Still, I am a sensitive and an empath and because I can pick up others’ energies/feelings so easily it definitely impacts how I feel and sometimes how I interact..
It’s still a fine balance and something I am always conscious of as the two parts of me strive for a happier mix.

Love your thoughts here.. always good to hear what you’re up to.

Many blessings,
Lisa

(your blog just ate my last post..)
So I was saying that for me it’s a balance.. I come from a big-mouthed straight talking family and have always been pretty comfortable sidestepping most forms of people pleasing. But.. because I am a sensitive/empath/intuitive and pick up others’ emotions and energies so easily sometimes this influences the ways that i interact and may shift things a bit.. it’s tricky and keeping the two sides of me unified is always a balancing act.

Fear isn’t fun.. and in my 50′s I am hoping for more breathing room.

great post, Leah.

Love to you

Beautifully and succinctly put, Leah! OMG, I struggle with the fear questions! But lately, I’ve had a few brushes with the liberated feeling, and it’s SUCH a difference! I have to remind myself constantly, but I hope it will get easier with practice. :-)

As usual you are SO spot on Leah! I work with my clients on this but we approach the question from fear based responses and love based responses. I love how when we feel fear with literally, physically CLOSE UP-we clench our jaws, contract our muscles, and close our hearts to the infinite possibilities out there.

Proud to say I have just come through transition to HUGE liberation, reclaiming my very first phrase “I do it my ownself” I knew at that young age I was capable now I am proudly flying my freak flag. Love your bold say it like it is voice, Leah.

I really resonated with this line: “When something feels expansive, it’s an indication that you are in alignment and opening up to more of yourself. There is a forward motion and sense of unfolding to it.” I agree, expansion is our true nature for we are limitless. So cool to think about and even better to actually embrace. Thank you for expanding my awareness today. ♥

I’ll admit that I sometimes hear the voice of fear in my head – including those exact questions – but I’ve got pretty good at recognizing it when it rears its head, and making choices from liberation instead. Great questions from Danielle, that’s one of my favorites of her posts :)
