How to Stay Focused on Your Kick-Ass Life
Posted by: | CommentsI don’t know about you, but I’m finding it really challenging to stay focused on how Kick-Ass my life actually is, when I’m being bombarded with all the fearful messages that are flying around in the media lately. I understand that we are facing some big challenges, and things are shifting and changing quickly, but to tell you the truth—This is a good thing!
It is pretty obvious that the way we have been living is deeply unsatisfying for a lot of people…….that’s why you’re here, right? The status quo isn’t working for you and you want to live a more meaningful, fun, satisfying life.
I think this desire runs deep in all human beings and in order to shift things for the highest good of all mankind, we need to shake things up and do things differently, and that is exactly what I feel is happening right now. People are feeling the pressure to take action to make their lives better, the time for tolerating oppression and all the shit that is not in alignment with your inner being is over. People everywhere are questioning archaic oppressive structures and empowering themselves to take action, it’s a beautiful thing really.
I’m of the opinion that now more than ever the world needs people who are tuned into their purpose and sharing what only they can share with the world. YOU have a unique perspective and piece of the puzzle and now IS the time to bring it forward. The world needs what you have to offer!!!! Believe that!
So how do you not get bogged down in fear and worry with all the turmoil that is happening? The trick is to stay focused and centered in your truth, and to keep moving towards how you want your life to be. It is common to hunker down in times like these, but now is the perfect time to keep moving forward and heading towards your dreams.
Even if society as we know it shifts and changes, you can still live a Kick-Ass Life. (If your thinking that going after your Kick-Ass Life is a selfish or foolish endeavor when things are so uncertain, then we need to talk about the importance of living your purpose and how to bust through that fear.)
Here are a few things that you can do to keep from getting bogged down in the drama and paralyzed by fear and worry.
1. Stop watching the news!!! Or at least take it in very small doses from non-hysterical sources. 6 hours of CNN a day is not helpful, and don’t get me started on Fox News! The media is trying to influence you to conform to their way of thinking. They want you to be afraid and to feel powerless. It makes you much easier to manipulate.
2. Have a daily practice to connect with your heart and center yourself on a daily basis. Mediation is good, a quiet walk without the headphones blaring, some plain old quiet time to sit for a minute and relax. Do whatever you need to be quiet ad slow down so you can actually here yourself think, and connect to what your heart is asking for.
3. Look for things that are Kick-Ass. Spend time everyday appreciating your life. Notice the beautiful flowers, feel the warm sun on your skin and bask in the juicy good feeling of these things. The Daily Kick-Ass List is something that I created to help my clients with this. I have included it in the Leah recommends section below.
4. Focus your attention on what you DO want to happen. Don’t get caught up in the drama of bitching, moaning, and complaining about how sucky things are. The more you talk about the things that aren’t working for you the more energy that you are giving to them. If you only do one thing from this list-Do this- Learn to focus your attention from what you don’t like to what you do want. Your focus and attention is something that you can actually control. Shift your attention to what you want to see happen and look for solutions to the problems rather than just getting pissed off, worried, or talking about how stupid the Senate is being to everyone you know on FB.
5. Look for evidence of your abundance! I know right now people are worried about $$$$. Make a habit of looking for evidence of your abundance. Things like- “Hey-I found a penny!”, “My friend fed me a wonderful meal!” and “In this moment I have everything I need” go a long way to boosting your ability to attract more abundance into your life. I like to meditate on these thoughts- “ The Universe prospers me” and “ The Universe provides me with everything that I need, life is good.”
6. Focus on the things that make your life meaningful, and that you are interested in and do more of them!!!! Do I need to say anymore about this?
7. Talk about your dreams and how you want to feel in your life. The more time you spend basking in this juicy energythe bigger it will become, and the stronger the signal is that you will be sending out into the Universe. Imagine how powerful it would be if everyone in the world did this? WoowZza!!!
Pick a few of these tips out and give them a whirl, then take a minute to let me know how they are working for you.
As always, I love to hear what is going on in that head of yours, so share your thoughts in the comments below.
This is Your Biggest Obstacle to Creating a Kick-Ass Life
Posted by: | CommentsOne of the biggest obstacles that I see for non-conforming souls is a belief that they hold deep down inside of themselves. It sabotages all their efforts and is what makes them give up once the going gets tough.
Can you guess what this belief is?
It’s the belief that they can’t pull it off. Somewhere along the line they were taught that they can’t really have what they want, and they don’t trust that they can create it.
Do you ever feel that way?
Maybe you don’t think that you deserve to live a Kick-Ass Life or you feel like you are wrong for wanting it?
Perhaps it just seems too overwhelming, and you’re afraid that you’ll lose everything if you go for it?
I’m not surprised that you think these things. These are the things we are told over and over again as we grow up.
Growing up, I bet you were often made wrong for marching to the beat of your own drummer. Your ideas were constantly shot down and you were told that you can’t do what you want. It became easier to fit in and conform to your families and societies expectations, than deal with all the conflict that going your own way led too.
It’s not surprising that you harbor this belief that you can’t have what you want!!! For a good part of your life this is exactly what you experienced.
I guarantee that this is what’s keeping you stuck in your rut right now.
What would happen if you DID believe that you COULD have what you want in your life and you knew that you could pull it off?
I bet that you would not hesitate to go for it. There would be no question of time, money, or all the other excuses that people use for not creating a life that they WANT to live.
Instead of saying “I can’t do it”, you’d be saying “How can I do this!?” and “Who wants to help me?”.
I’ll let you in on a little secret- You can live the life you want to live and you can create it for yourself right now!
And I am going to help you if you’ll let me.
I offer a wonderful variety of coaching packages that are designed to help you successfully navigate the obstacles as you create the life that you want to live. You can learn more about them here.
The little mean girl wants to come out
Posted by: | CommentsThe other day was one of those days where I really loved my life! It was the perfect combination of work and play. It was also my massage day! Massage day is cool because I get to see my friend Dan and we chat and he gives me an awesome massage. It is surely part of what makes my life Kick-Ass!
As I lay on the table, and began to relax I started thinking about my day and a wonderful conversation that I had had with a really cool lady named Martia Nelson. She is a published author and coach who I was introduced to by a mutual friend. She had given me some high praise about my website and my writing style. She complimented my ability to write clearly using simple language that conveyed the meaning of complex information.
I was thrilled to hear these compliments as she said them! I felt myself puffing up with pride as she spoke the words to me. I readily received her compliments in the moment. It felt awesome to be seen as an excellent writer!
But now, as I lay on the massage table thinking about the conversation, I found myself discounting her praise.
In my mind it went something like this: “She just said those nice things to butter me up. She really just wanted me to have her on My Kick-Ass Dream Life. I’m not that good of a writer. I can’t spell and my grammar sucks! She didn’t really mean it” I started to feel small and suddenly life didn’t feel so Kick-Ass any more.
Do you ever find yourself doing that?
WTF!? I was totally making up a story about why I suck as a writer and how no-one would really praise me and mean it!! It made feel small and insignificant.
I will be the first one to tell you that part of your Kick-Ass Life is OWNING your talents and appreciating how awesome you are. So why was I laying here questioning Martia’s sincerity and discounting her compliments?
Part of the reason I do this because I have a “story” about myself from childhood concerning writing. This story says-my spelling is awful and my grammar sucks. I am always criticized for this. I have to be extra careful or I will be judged harshly. I’m not good enough because I can’t do this.
When I believe this story I discount people’s praise. I discount my talent. I discount who I am. I don’t feel very Kick-Ass at all.
Do you have stories about yourself that keep you from feeling Kick-Ass?
I think we all do!
So what do you do about them?
The first step is to acknowledge that you have them.
I find that noticing the stories can be the hardest part. Usually they are based on some past experiences that are REAL and TRUE! I AM a bad speller and my grammar is not the best. I always got bad grades in spelling and grammar, and it affected the grades on my writing assignments. It was always a problem. It made me feel less than the other kids who could spell. That was my reality in school.
The question is, is it my reality now?
Not really! Sure, I still spell bad and have careless grammar, but there is the magic of spell check which usually fixes things up nicely. I have learned how to proofread by reading everything out loud which allows me to catch most other mistakes. I also have an editor that I use. People praise my writing skills all the time. I am invited to write for other websites like Fearless Press and Owning Pink. My writing actually is something for me to be proud of and feel good about! My writing is Kick-Ass!
So why do I keep telling the old story that feels bad to me?
I suspect that it is because a small part of me is not fully ready to embrace my brilliance. It wants to keep me small and this old story does a great job of keeping me in that place. This small part of me used to be much bigger and it ran everything in my life…….but not anymore. Now it only slips out when I am not paying attention and brings up old stories from the past in an effort to regain control.
I’m not going to let that happen!
I’m going to keep focusing on the amazing-ness of my currant reality and tell a new story that supports me being an accomplished writer. And when someone tells me the love what I write, I am going to believe them!
Start Looking For what Feels Good!
Posted by: | CommentsI am fresh back from an awesome long weekend spent engaging in pleasurable pursuits and I am really looking forward to doing My Kick-Ass Dream Life this afternoon at 3 PM EST. We are going to be continuing the conversation around some of my favorite subjects- owning pleasure and committing to feeling good.
Last week on the show we had a fantastic discussion about the importance of making a commitment to feeling good and understanding your relationship to pleasure. It all comes down to this- a Kick-Ass Life= Feeling Good. We want you to CLAIM your right to feel good in your life and commit to doing it by making it your top priority.
So why is this commitment so difficult to make?
It seems like so many people are committed to seeing all their own flaws and where things aren’t working for them but they get stuck around making a commitment to feeling good and noticing all the things that are awesome about themselves and their lives. It somehow seems easier to keep yourself small and insignificant than look for your greatness.
How do you empower yourself to let the goodness in and give yourself permission to feel good?
Last week on MKADL we talked about the first step- Claim it for yourself and give yourself permission to feel good and enjoy pleasure.
This week we will discuss the second step-Start looking for all the things that feel good to you, give you pleasure, and what you want more of. It is all there right in front of you waiting to be discovered. The thing is that we are not really taught to look for it. We are taught to look for the potential problems, and what isn’t working, and what you don’t like. Aren’t those things easy to find!
Interestingly enough, there are plenty of awesome, amazing things that feel good for you to find as well, once you shift your focus and start looking for them.
Try it! Make the commitment to look for the things that feel good to you for 1 week and let me know what happens in the comments below!

How do you want to feel at the end of your day?
